In the holidays, I went to Christchurch to visit my Aunt Jackie, Uncle Jim, my cousin Maddox and my Nana and Grandy. If you’re wondering what a ‘Grandy’ actually is, it’s because Grandy’s actual name is Andy, and he’s a grandad, and the name just stuck. Me Maddox and Tom (my little brother) have called him that for as long as we can remember.
Christchurch was heaps of fun and we did heaps of cool stuff there, including going out to dinner twice! On the flight back we were due to fly as a UM, which is an Unaccompanied Minor. There were nine of us on the flight, and one of them I made friends with and her name was Samara. We boarded the plane - all nine of us, plus the passengers. The flight back to Palmy was an hour and 20 minutes. When we got there and were flying over the runway getting ready to land, the pilot told everyone we wouldn’t be able to land cause of low cloud & bad weather. We had to ANOTHER 45 minute flight to Wellington. The passengers had to go to the first floor to sort it out, but we got to go behind the scenes! We went into the staffroom and waited there for about 5 - 10 minutes. There was a really nice lady called Irma and a super nice guy called Gus. They asked us if we were hungry and we nodded our heads - we were starving!
Irma and Gus smiled at usand said we should go and get some lunch. They gave us a $20 voucher to spend on whatever we wanted in the food court! Everyone chose Subway and it was delish! I got my famous order: Italian herbs and cheese bread, meatballs, every single salad apart from gherkins, jalapenos and onion, without sauce or salt and pepper. Heavenly! We were allowed to get a drink, so I got a cold classic OJ. We all sat down eating our Subway and shaking up our Orange Juices and Lipton Ice Tea so much that it was white and frothy at the top. Then, with a full stomach, we went back to the staffroom to collect our bags. When we walked out side, we saw a super shuttle waiting for us. Gus said we were taking a bus back to Palmy and he also said goodbye, as it was only Irma coming with us on the bus and that he was due at Gate 9 in four minutes. We said goodbye and hopped into the bus. For the next two hours we listened to music, sang along and talked. Two hours later, we hopped off at the Palmerston North Airport. We didn’t have to wait for long, because Mum pulled up 2 minutes later and swept us into a hug.
“How was it?” she asked.
“We were in the air at 9:30 and we got here at 3:50, soooo...” I said with a smile on my lips.
